Position Summary
Responsible to lead or participate in the installation, configuration, implementation and maintenance of third party hardware or system software utilities. Lead or participate in project designs and upgrades of hardware or software systems within assigned IT area. Act as a key point of contact and advise team on complex technical issues and resolution of such.

Minimum Requirements
Degrees
Bachelor' s Degree (Required) Information Technology
Business Administration or related field or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
Job Experience
Seven years Information Technology experience in the assigned specialty area.
Requires extensive knowledge of computer hardware architecture and operating systems in a multi-system environment. Good analytical, problem solving, decision-making, attention to detail, customer service, interpersonal and communication skills needed.
Develops team members through mentoring and coaching in complex subjects.
Successfully serves as point of authority and/or source of technical/scientific knowledge for the specialized software

Responsibilities and Essential Duties
Configure and tune Unix/Linux systems, servers, and related components to ensure high levels of availability and security of the supported business applications.
Implement policies, procedures, and technologies (including firewalls) to ensure Unix/Linux system security through secure system access, monitoring, control, and routine security evaluations.
Perform and test system configuration backups and restores to ensure system recovery from error or outage. Perform and test data backups and restores, in conjunction with the storage team where present, to ensure full data retrieval.
Participates in the planning and implementation of policies and procedures to ensure Unix/Linux system provisioning and maintenance that is consistent with company goals, industry best practices and regulatory requirements.
Evaluate server hardware and software components and the verification of interoperability of these products with existing components.
Monitor server processor and network performance and security.
Prepare and conduct presentations to IT management and discuss IT technology issues and solutions in a non-technical manner while ensuring understanding by targeted audience.
Maintain current knowledge of industry trends and best practices within Information Technology and remain current with new technologies and systems engineer methodologies and protocols. Make recommendations to improve current systems or processes.
Develop, document, and maintain Unix/Linux system training materials and systems documentation for educating end users and new IT staff. Manage and/or provide guidance to junior members of the team.
Support application development teams throughout project lifecycles. Monitor, test and tune system performance; preserve and provide system log files as needed

Knowledge, Skills Abilities
Requires specific knowledge of IBM AIX, Redhat and SUSE Linux Operating Systems. Experience installing, configuring and maintaining AIX and Linux Operating Systems, VIO - Virtual I/O Servers, Power Server Logical Partitioning (LPARs), HMC - Hardware Management Console, SAN - Storage Area Networks, SAN Controllers and Switches, TCP/IP Network Communications, TSM - Tivoli Storage Manager and TDS - Tivoli Directory Server. Working technical knowledge of: Linux and AIX Operating Systems (installation, patching, and recovery), Operating system hardening and security best practices, Korn Shell and Perl programming, NIM - Network Installation Manager, NMOM - Performance monitoring, System performance and capacity monitoring/reporting, IIS - InfoSphere Information Server (DataStage), FTP-SFTP-PGP Data Transfer/Encryption, Sarbanes-Oxley Auditing and Compliance, Disaster Recovery, Automated Scheduling and Print Server.
