Job Description

Our client, a leader in custom machine building for advanced manufacturing environments, is seeking a Senior Controls Engineer to join their high-performing automation team. This is a key technical role where you'll design, program, and troubleshoot complex control systems that integrate PLCs, HMIs, robotics, vision systems, and motion controls into fully customized solutions.  If you're fluent in Siemens TIA Portal and bring a deep understanding of automation systems and robotic integration, this is an opportunity to lead innovative projects from concept to completion. Key Responsibilities:
  • Design, develop, and implement control systems for custom machinery using Siemens TIA Portal and other automation platforms.
  • Program and integrate PLCs, HMIs, robots, and vision systems to meet project specifications.
  • Collaborate closely with mechanical and electrical teams to ensure seamless system integration.
  • Configure and design HMI/OIT systems using platforms such as Allen Bradley, National Instruments, and Maple Systems.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex automation and control issues across PLCs, robotics, and motion systems.
  • Apply knowledge of UL and CE industry standards to ensure system compliance and safety.
  • Support system testing, startup, and commissioning at the facility and occasionally at customer sites.
  • Mentor junior controls engineers and provide leadership on larger projects.

Job Requirements

Required Qualifications:
  • 5–7+ years of experience in the automation or custom machine build industry.
  • Expert-level proficiency in Siemens TIA Portal.
  • Strong understanding of PLC, HMI, robotic, and vision system programming languages.
  • Hands-on experience with configuring HMI/OIT systems (Allen Bradley, NI, Maple Systems).
  • Familiarity with UL and CE standards in control panel design and implementation.
  • Solid experience troubleshooting and optimizing complex control systems.
  • Working knowledge of motion controllers and actuators.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience working with Fanuc or ABB industrial robots.
  • Exposure to MES systems and integration into automated workflows.
  • Proficiency with vision systems such as Cognex and Keyence.
  • Prior experience in a lead or senior engineering role on multi-disciplinary automation projects.
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field (or equivalent experience).
