Job Description


  • Identify, assess, and utilize open source, commercial, academic, and government software and software architectures to meet stakeholder needs.

  • Implement software development processes, procedures, and techniques that effectively support rapid, iterative, and collaborative experimentation.

  • Participate and lead discussions with war-fighters and other stakeholders to deconstruct requirements, propose solutions, and develop experimentation goals and time-lines to achieve project objectives.

  • Lead diverse teams of software engineers, IT staff, and subject matter experts to explore hypotheses, develop proofs-of-concept, and evaluate prototypes.

  • Develop and leverage relationships across the enterprise, industry, academia, labs and other non-traditional collaborators.

  • Manage resources and coordinate development tasks while supervising technical project plans.

  • Monitor and evaluate the progress of software development efforts and keep the CTO informed of time-lines, progress, and resources required.

  • Assign tasks and communicate (both written and oral) with staff, customers, academia, industry partners, community volunteers, high ranking officials, and the public.

  • Provide strategic advice to the CTO, Dep/Director and USSOCOM on all assigned projects.


  • Must be able to pass and obtain a DOD Security Clearance background check.

  • Experience with multiple operating systems, including but not limited to, MS Windows, Mac OS, iOS, Android.

  • Strong background in one or more flavors of Linux

  • Experience (10 + years in industry preferred):: Participation in rapid software prototyping and experimentation.
    : Familiar with the myriad platforms, licenses, and acceptable uses of open source software
    : Project Engineer, Systems Engineer or Program Management preferred.

  • Current knowledge of multiple programming languages, collaborative software development tools (e.G. Version control, documentation, and communication systems) and software design patterns & algorithms.

  • Education: Bachelor' s Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, and/or Information Systems or equivalent experience.

  • Good planning and organizational skills.

  • Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Must be willing and able to work a dynamic, rapidly changing environment.
