Regional Senior Accountant - Construction & Project Accounting

Our client, a nationally recognized leader in commercial construction services, is seeking a Regional Senior Accountant to join their Indianapolis-based team. This is a high-impact, multifaceted accounting role with a strategic focus on supporting multiple operating units across the region. If you have experience in job costing, project-based accounting, and a deep understanding of construction or manufacturing financials, this role offers both challenge and career growth in a highly stable, nationwide organization.
As a key financial liaison between the field operations and the corporate accounting functions, the Regional Senior Accountant helps ensure that business decisions are supported by accurate financial insights. This role works closely with the Regional Controller and operating unit staff to handle everything from month-end close and project accruals to forecasting and internal audits.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and execute month-end close processes across multiple operating units
- Prepare and post journal entries including general ledger adjustments, insurance entries, rebates, intercompany transactions, and bad debt reserves
- Participate in CTC (cost-to-complete) meetings and process any necessary project adjustments before close
- Prepare and post project-related accruals such as service revenue, uninstalled materials, and production revenue
- Reconcile WIP (Work-In-Progress) and ensure alignment with general ledger
- Perform account reconciliations, including AR, AP, and other balance sheet items
- Support audits and tax compliance efforts across federal, state, and local levels
- Monitor and maintain fixed asset records and operational lease/vehicle trackers
- Train and support accounting staff at local operating units
- Assist in financial forecasting and acquisition support
- Act as a key resource and backup for regional and unit-level accounting teams
Job Requirements
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or closely related field
- Minimum 5 years of accounting experience, including job costing and project accounting
- Prior experience in construction or manufacturing environments
- Solid knowledge of in-house payroll processes and payroll tax compliance
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong organizational and analytical skills
- Ability to lead others and manage cross-functional relationships
- Flexibility and willingness to travel regionally as needed
Preferences:
- Experience with ERP systems (e.g., Viewpoint, Sage, or similar platforms)
- Background in multi-entity accounting environments
- Exposure to mergers, acquisitions, or financial integrations
- Familiarity with WIP scheduling and revenue recognition standards
