Job Description
Our client, a global leader in advanced manufacturing systems, is seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Environmental Specialist for their facility in Grant, Michigan. This role is ideal for professionals who are passionate about environmental compliance, sustainability, and driving measurable impact within a high-performance manufacturing environment.
In this position, you'll take ownership of the facility's environmental programs, ensuring full compliance with federal, state, and local regulations while also leading long-term environmental planning and reporting. From hazardous waste management to air and water permitting, you will be instrumental in keeping the site aligned with both regulatory standards and corporate environmental goals.
This is a strategic and hands-on role, offering visibility across departments and the opportunity to partner closely with operations, engineering, and corporate sustainability teams.
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as the subject matter expert on environmental compliance, ensuring adherence to applicable EPA, state, and local regulations.
- Develop, implement, and maintain environmental programs including hazardous waste management, stormwater and wastewater compliance, air permitting, and pollution prevention.
- Lead environmental audits, inspections, and risk assessments; manage corrective actions and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Coordinate and submit all required environmental reports (e.g., Tier II, TRI, biennial hazardous waste, emissions inventories).
- Conduct waste determinations and support proper waste labeling, handling, and storage in accordance with RCRA requirements.
- Oversee the facility's environmental recordkeeping systems, ensuring timely and accurate documentation.
- Perform sampling, monitoring, and testing related to air emissions, wastewater, and other environmental media.
- Act as the facility liaison with environmental regulatory agencies; manage permit applications, renewals, and reporting.
- Participate in sustainability initiatives, environmental performance tracking, and environmental training for staff.
- Support facility planning related to future environmental requirements and regulatory changes.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of hands-on environmental compliance experience in a high-volume manufacturing setting.
- In-depth knowledge of environmental regulations (EPA, RCRA, CAA, CWA, etc.).
- Experience managing hazardous waste programs, air and water permits, and environmental reporting.
- Strong technical writing and organizational skills; capable of producing high-quality documentation for audits and agency communications.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize projects, and interact with various teams and regulatory officials.
- Familiarity with environmental management systems (e.g., ISO 14001).
- Experience with environmental data tracking tools or software.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Working knowledge of LDAR (Leak Detection and Repair) and SPCC (Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure) programs.
- Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM) or equivalent credential

Will be employed and paid hourly by iMPact Business Group. Benefits (medical, dental & vision) are available after 90 days of employment.
