Payroll Specialist
Job Description
Our client is seeking a detail-oriented Payroll Specialist to support payroll operations within a fast-paced and growing manufacturing environment in Belding, Michigan. This position plays a critical role in ensuring accurate and compliant payroll processing while supporting employees, leadership, and HR operations across the organization.

The Payroll Specialist will serve as a key resource for payroll processing, timekeeping compliance, payroll tax administration, reporting, and HRIS system integrity. Responsibilities
- Process multi-state payroll accurately and timely while ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations
- Serve as the subject matter expert for payroll, HRIS, and timekeeping systems
- Review and audit employee time records, overtime, PTO, attendance, payroll adjustments, and shift differentials
- Ensure compliance with FLSA regulations, wage and hour laws, meal and rest break requirements, and payroll recordkeeping standards
- Maintain employee payroll records, tax withholding data, payroll deductions, earnings codes, and HRIS system integrity
- Process garnishments, child support orders, tax levies, benefit deductions, and other regulated payroll deductions
- Assist with payroll tax filings, W-2 processing, year-end activities, and quarterly reporting
- Conduct payroll audits to identify discrepancies, compliance concerns, and system errors
- Support payroll reporting, reconciliations, analytics, and management reporting
- Train supervisors and employees on payroll procedures, timekeeping practices, overtime rules, and payroll systems usage
- Respond to employee payroll inquiries regarding pay, deductions, taxes, timekeeping, and leave balances
- Assist with compliance reporting
- Support HR projects, employee relations activities, and compliance initiatives as needed
- Maintain strict confidentiality of payroll, compensation, and employee information
- Stay current on payroll laws, tax regulations, and compliance updates while recommending process improvements
Qualifications
- 2+ years of payroll processing experience
- Experience with payroll and HRIS systems, preferably Paylocity
- Strong understanding of:
- Payroll tax regulations
- Wage and hour laws
- FLSA compliance
- Payroll auditing
- Timekeeping compliance
- Payroll reporting and reconciliations
- Experience processing garnishments, tax levies, and regulated payroll deductions
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet strict deadlines
- High level of discretion and professionalism handling confidential information
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel
Preferred Qualifications
- Manufacturing industry experience preferred
- Experience with Paylocity HRIS strongly preferred
- Understanding of payroll accounting and year-end processing procedures
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field
- CPP certification preferred but not required
Schedule & Work Environment
- Full-time onsite role located in Belding, Michigan
- Standard business hours

Contract positions
Will be employed and paid hourly by iMPact Business Group. Benefits (medical, dental & vision) are available after 90 days of employment.
