Job Description
Our client is seeking a skilled and driven Operations Manager to oversee their Plastic Injection Molding department. This will lead and elevate their molding department based in the Grant, MI area. This is a hands-on, high-impact leadership role responsible for overseeing daily operations, managing a team of technical molding professionals, and driving continuous improvement across safety, quality, delivery, and cost.
The ideal candidate brings a strong background in manufacturing leadership-preferably in plastic injection molding-and thrives in environments where collaboration, efficiency, and innovation are essential. This role requires someone who can manage cross-functional teams, improve production processes, and help guide strategic operational decisions in a fast-paced setting.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage all aspects of plastic injection molding operations, including tooling, materials, and processing
- Set and achieve goals aligned with QCDSM (Quality, Cost, Delivery, Safety, Morale) metrics
- Oversee and develop technical staff including process technicians, setup personnel, tool room, and material handling teams
- Manage departmental budgets, track key performance indicators, and drive cost control initiatives
- Champion lean manufacturing practices and spearhead process improvements to reduce waste and increase efficiency
- Coordinate with engineering and product development teams to support the successful launch of new products
- Apply data analysis and statistical process control to improve uptime, yield, and product quality
- Evaluate and recommend new equipment, systems, and technologies to enhance operations
- Maintain full compliance with company policies, safety regulations, and environmental standards
- Build a flexible, team-based culture focused on continuous learning and performance excellence
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in manufacturing, engineering, or a related field-or equivalent hands-on experience
- 8+ years of experience with plastic injection molding in an automotive manufacturing environment
- 3+ years of proven leadership experience in a molding manufacturing environment
- Experience working with outside tooling suppliers to obtain new quotes
- In-depth understanding of lean manufacturing and continuous improvement methodologies
