Mechanical Design Engineer
Job Description
Our customer is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to design and develop high-performance enclosures, housings, and components for machine vision lighting solutions. This role is ideal for someone with strong mechanical engineering fundamentals, hands-on product development experience, and the ability to collaborate across engineering, manufacturing, quality, and supplier teams to deliver reliable, production-ready designs.
What you'll get to do:
- Design mechanical enclosures, housings, brackets, and related components for LED-based machine vision lighting products using SolidWorks and 3DExperience
- Apply DFM/DFA, tolerance analysis, material selection, sealing, and thermal design principles to create manufacturable, cost-effective designs
- Build, evaluate, and validate prototypes to confirm thermal, structural, dimensional, and performance requirement
- Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, optical, manufacturing, quality, and supplier teams throughout product development.
- Create and maintain CAD models, drawings, BOMs, specifications, test reports, and other engineering documentation.
- Support compliance, certification, supplier communication, milestone tracking, and continuous improvement activities.
Job Requirements
What you'll need:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business, or a related field, or equivalent experience
- 4+ years of mechanical product design experience, ideally with electronics packaging, precision enclosures, or related products
- Strong SolidWorks skills; working knowledge of 3DExperience preferred
- Experience with prototyping, testing, validation, 2D drawings, BOMs, and engineering documentation
- Knowledge of DFM/DFA, tolerance stack-up, sheet metal, die cast, injection molded plastic, aluminum extrusion, and sealing design principles
- Familiarity with ECR/ECO processes, APQP methodology, IP ratings, CE, UL, or RoHS is a plus
- Strong communication, collaboration, critical thinking, attention to detail, and supplier-management skills
Contract positions
Will be employed and paid hourly by iMPact Business Group. Benefits (medical, dental & vision) are available after 90 days of employment.
Permanent placed employees
Paid by and qualify for benefits in accordance with the policies of the hiring company.
