Job Description

Our client is seeking a seasoned Materials Manager to lead and evolve their materials and supply chain operations in a dynamic manufacturing environment. This direct-hire opportunity is ideal for an operations-savvy professional who thrives at the intersection of planning, procurement, inventory control, and cross-functional collaboration. The right candidate will bring leadership, technical know-how, and a drive for continuous improvement to ensure materials are available, cost-effective, and aligned with production goals.
This is a critical role overseeing everything from vendor negotiation and supply chain forecasting to inventory reporting and team development. You'll be a key voice in shaping strategy and driving results, with visibility among senior leaders and direct impact on the company's success.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead and implement a fully integrated, cross-functional planning process covering forecasting, scheduling, inventory management, and materials planning.
  • Interpret production schedules and engineering specs to support raw material planning and procurement.
  • Source and negotiate with vendors to secure optimal pricing and quality; manage purchase orders and delivery timelines.
  • Oversee incoming materials and logistics to ensure quality standards are met and defective materials are addressed swiftly.
  • Maintain and monitor inventory accuracy; prepare and present monthly inventory reports to leadership.
  • Investigate and resolve material variances in coordination with production teams.
  • Manage urgent material needs by arranging expedited supplies as required.
  • Collaborate with accounting and finance teams to align on material costs, shortages, and variances.
  • Mentor and train team members in inventory control, purchasing, and planning processes.
  • Foster strong relationships with contractors and suppliers to maintain reliability in the supply chain.
  • Communicate supply chain strategies and performance updates to senior executives.
  • Support continuous improvement and lean initiatives, including participation in team-based improvement programs.
  • Maintain strict adherence to safety and quality policies at all times.

Job Requirements

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Logistics, or related field.
  • 5-7 years of experience in materials management within a manufacturing or industrial setting.
  • Strong negotiation and vendor management skills.
  • Proficient in analyzing production needs and translating them into material and supply plans.
  • Solid understanding of material specifications and production requirements.
  • Demonstrated success in sourcing, purchasing, and cost management.
  • Advanced knowledge of inventory control methods and tools (traditional and modern).
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Strong computer proficiency, including inventory and ERP systems.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with lean manufacturing or continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Familiarity with behavioral-based safety programs.
  • Prior leadership or supervisory experience within a materials or logistics team.
  • Knowledge of regulatory or quality standards in a manufacturing environment.
  • ERP implementation or optimization experience.
