Job Description

Our client, a manufacturing company here in the Grand Rapids area, is actively looking for a highly skilled and experienced Manufacturing Engineer to join their team!
Our client offers great work-life balance, minimum overtime, and half days on Fridays when remote work is possible. 
 
As a Manufacturing Engineer, you will be responsible for optimizing and improving our metal stamping and tooling processes, ensuring efficient production, and maintaining high-quality standards.
Responsibilities:
 
  • Process Optimization: Evaluate existing metal stamping processes, identify areas for improvement, and implement enhancements to increase efficiency, productivity, and quality.
  • Equipment Selection and Maintenance: Select appropriate manufacturing equipment and machinery for metal stamping operations and oversee their maintenance and calibration to ensure smooth and uninterrupted production.
  • Process Documentation: Create and maintain comprehensive documentation, including work instructions, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and process flowcharts to ensure standardized practices and facilitate knowledge transfer.
  • Plant Layout: optimize manufacturing flow and re-configure aspects of the plant layout as necessary.
  • Cost Reduction Initiatives: Identify opportunities for cost reduction and process improvement, such as material utilization, cycle time reduction, and waste reduction, while maintaining product quality.
  • Continuous Improvement: Drive a culture of continuous improvement by actively participating in problem-solving initiatives, root cause analysis, and implementing corrective actions to prevent reoccurrence.
  • Team Collaboration: Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including production, maintenance, quality, and design, to resolve issues, implement process changes, and ensure effective coordination and communication.
  • Training and Mentoring: Provide technical guidance, training, and mentorship to manufacturing personnel on tooling setup, equipment operation, and process optimization to enhance their skills and knowledge.
  • Safety and Compliance: Promote and enforce safety protocols, ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, and identify and mitigate potential safety hazards within the manufacturing environment.

Job Requirements

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering-related field (e.g., Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering).
  • A minimum of 3 years of engineering experience in a manufacturing environment with a focus on tooling and stamping-related work.
  • Experience with statistical process control, and problem-solving techniques (e.g., Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing)
