Overview:
Our client is seeking a strategic and technically hands-on Director of Software Development to lead their software engineering function across enterprise-wide systems. This is a senior leadership role responsible for shaping the long-term architecture and development practices, while also ensuring the delivery and support of critical software applications used in daily operations. You'll be managing and mentoring cross-functional development teams (internal and external) while collaborating closely with executive stakeholders to align technology initiatives with business goals.

You'll be managing and mentoring cross-functional development teams (internal and external) while collaborating closely with executive stakeholders to align technology initiatives with business goals.

Key Responsibilities:
- Drive the strategic vision and execution of enterprise software systems across platforms.
- Oversee daily development operations ensuring reliability, scalability, and performance of core applications.
- Manage relationships with third-party vendors and ensure quality and alignment with internal development standards.
- Lead the adoption and evolution of Agile methodologies, continuous integration, and DevOps best practices.
- Maintain and evolve the software development roadmap in collaboration with product and business teams.
- Make architectural decisions that support long-term maintainability, scalability, and extensibility of systems.
- Ensure delivery of software solutions that meet business and technical requirements, on time and within budget.
- Guide the team in using secure coding, documentation, and modern development practices.
- Oversee cross-functional collaboration on business-critical initiatives and large-scale software integrations.
- Provide leadership and mentorship to engineering managers, developers, and analysts.
Job Requirements
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, MIS, or a related field required; Master's degree preferred.
- 10+ years of IT experience including software development, application lifecycle management, and systems architecture.
- 10+ years of experience in technical leadership roles, including direct management of development teams.
- Strong background in programming with Java, C#, or .NET technologies.
- Proven track record of architecting and delivering complex, enterprise-grade systems.
- Deep understanding of the full software development lifecycle (SDLC).
- Experience leading Agile development teams and implementing Agile frameworks.
Preferred Experience & Skills:
- Prior experience in Property & Casualty insurance systems strongly preferred.
- Familiarity with Guidewire InsuranceSuite (PolicyCenter, BillingCenter, ClaimsCenter) is a significant plus.
- Advanced knowledge of SQL Server, SSIS, SSRS, and database architecture.
- Hands-on experience with front-end and back-end technologies: JavaScript, jQuery, CSS, RESTful APIs, and web integration.
- Background in implementing design patterns, MVC architecture, object-oriented development, and CI/CD pipelines.
- Experience with business process modeling, systems integration, and modern data-driven platforms.
- Guidewire Configuration certification is highly desirable.
