Job Description
Systems Programmer / SCADA Developer (Operational Technology)
Location: Grand Rapids, MI (Onsite)
Travel: ~10%
Position Overview
We are seeking a Systems Programmer / SCADA Developer to support and enhance industrial automation and operational technology systems. This role will focus on SCADA platform development (Ignition), system integration, and continuous improvement of manufacturing and operational processes.
This position is ideal for candidates with a background in PLC programming or software development within industrial environments, who have hands-on experience with SCADA systems and enjoy working across both IT and OT domains.
You will play a key role in designing, developing, and optimizing scalable control and visualization systems, while collaborating with engineering, IT, and operations teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain SCADA applications using Ignition platforms
- Integrate SCADA/OT systems with enterprise applications (ERP, MES, databases, APIs)
- Develop and enhance system functionality, visualization, and data flow across operations
- Program, troubleshoot, and support PLC-based control systems (Allen-Bradley, Schneider, etc.)
- Implement and support MQTT architectures for real-time data communication
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Engineering, IT, Operations) on system improvements
- Lead or contribute to automation and controls-related projects from concept through deployment
- Troubleshoot system issues and drive root cause analysis and resolution
- Support system scalability, performance optimization, and reliability initiatives
Job Requirements
Qualifications
- Experience with Inductive Automation Ignition (8.1+) development
- Strong SQL scripting and database integration experience
- Background in PLC programming (Allen-Bradley, Schneider Electric, Click, or similar)
- Working knowledge of SCADA, IIoT, and MES systems within manufacturing environments
- Experience with MQTT frameworks (publish/subscribe, brokers, topics, QoS, security)
- Familiarity with APIs and system integrations across IT/OT environments
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving capabilities
- Experience working in cross-functional, project-based environments
Preferred Background
- Experience in industrial automation, manufacturing, or process control environments
- Exposure to both software development and controls engineering
- Understanding of networked industrial systems and data architecture

Additional Requirements
- Must be able to work onsite in Grand Rapids, MI
- Ability to travel up to 10% as needed
Contract positions
Will be employed and paid hourly by iMPact Business Group. Benefits (medical, dental & vision) are available after 90 days of employment.
Permanent placed employees
