Job Description

Our client distributes grocery products to independent and chain retailers in 50 states and our corporate-owned retail stores throughout the Midwest, in addition to fresh food processing and distribution. Through our MDV military division, we are a leading distributor of grocery products to U.S. military commissaries.
 
Our client is seeking a Senior IT Project Manager to run a Retail POS Replacement project.
Duration of this contract: 19 months
Location: Prefer a local resource (West MI) - open to EST candidates if they are willing to travel as needed.

Position Summary:

The IT Project Manager for the POS Replacement is responsible for leading all technology‑focused components of a large‑scale POS system replacement across our retail locations. This role partners closely with a Business‑Side Project Manager from the National Project Management Office (NPMO), ensuring tight coordination between technical execution and business readiness. The IT PM oversees system design, infrastructure readiness, integrations, testing, deployment, and post‑go‑live support while maintaining alignment with business operations, store leadership, and enterprise governance.

Travel Flexibility - Willingness to visit store locations for assessments, deployments, and support.
 
Here's what you'll do: 
  • Partner with functional business departments and sponsors to create, review, and gain approval of project scope, objectives, and plans and to determine the timeframe, funding, and resource allocation on various project phases, staffing requirements, and procedures for accomplishment.  
  • Manage the planning, management, and completion of assigned projects; develop and define detailed work plans and project deliverables.  
  • Develop and maintain project timelines and milestones.  
  • Ensure appropriate approvals are obtained for each project phase and that team members understand expectations, timelines, and scope.  
  • Manage the details of the project including the plan, schedule, resources, task assignments, risk, scope, and budget; track progress and monitor project management activities to ensure projects are completed according to the determined schedule and budget.  
  • Report schedule, budget, and delivery details to business and department management.  
  • Advise or make recommendations to management of interim plans, potential issues, mitigating strategies, and implications of requested scope or resource changes.  
  • Interface with end users, technology specialists, and senior project management team to understand and prioritize business goals and information needs; oversee the development of business processes, systems requirements, and design specifications.  
  • Manage the financial aspects of projects including project budget, forecasting, and reporting actual and forecast expenditures. 
  • Coordinate and communicate cross-functionally with assigned project team members to facilitate deviation from original specifications and identify effective solutions.  
  • Maintain current knowledge of industry trends and best project management practices; make recommendations to improve current programs and processes.  
 

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree (Required) in Computer Science, Business Administration, or related field or equivalent combination of education and/or experience. 
  • Project Management Professional license (Preferred) 
  • 10+ years of progressive broad-based information systems and business experience; prior project management experience and skills (planning and organizing) to include implementation projects or work process cycles from inception to completion.  Experience in technological development and testing of applications is desirable. 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to interact and influence associates and management at all levels.
  • Strong organizational, project management, negotiation, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to resolve issues with a detail-oriented approach.
  • Ability to understand, analyze and communicate technical designs, project issues, and status effectively.
  • Strong working knowledge of project management lifecycle and processes.
  • Ability to articulate technical information to a variety of audiences.
  • Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project).
  • May be required to travel up to 25%.
  • Most projects utilize the Waterfall methodology - moving to Agile with some large projects
  • Working w/ Jira is a plus
