About the Role
Our client is seeking a Financial Reporting Specialist to join their team and support the Controller and Assistant Controller in ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting. This role involves preparing financial statements, overseeing audits, and maintaining compliance with regulatory requirements. The ideal candidate has a strong accounting background, preferably within the property and casualty insurance industry, and possesses a solid understanding of GAAP and statutory accounting principles.
Responsibilities
- Prepare, review, and submit monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in compliance with GAAP and statutory regulations.
- Serve as a key representative during annual external audits and assist internal auditors as needed.
- Prepare and analyze external reinsurance reports and support the evaluation of reinsurance contracts.
- Ensure compliance by preparing and submitting regulatory reports as required.
- Assist in preparing consolidated budgets and forecasts, including budget vs. actual analysis.
- Maintain financial systems and internal controls to ensure data integrity.
- Identify and implement cost-saving and cost-containment strategies.
- Participate in special projects and ad hoc financial reporting.
- Mentor and train accounting staff to enhance their knowledge and skills.
- Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders in a professional manner.
Job Requirements
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting required.
- Minimum 5 years of accounting and financial reporting experience.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting practices.
- Experience in general ledger accounting with a focus on reinsurance, income tax, and treasury management preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple projects.
- Experience in public accounting and the property & casualty insurance industry is a plus.
Preferred Qualifications
- CPA certification preferred.
- Familiarity with insurance industry-specific accounting rules and statutory accounting practices.
- Experience with financial information systems and reporting tools.
- A proactive mindset with a strong work ethic and attention to detail.
