Job Description

Our client, a contract manufacturer of aerospace electronic components is seeking a direct hire, onsite Director of Engineering.

 

Our Director of Engineering is critical role at the forefront of our mission to deliver high-reliability, cutting-edge electronic solutions for defense, aerospace, and other high-stakes industries. As Director of Engineering, you will lead talented teams for Quality Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, and Test Engineering, partner across functions, and make a lasting impact on product integrity, customer satisfaction, and operational excellence.

Responsibilities:

  • Provides overall direction to the Company's Engineering department, ensuring the highest level of service is maintained for both internal and external customers
  • Delivers products and services that meet cost, quality and time expectations by working collaboratively with customers, peers and employees
  • Markets engineering services to existing customers and develop new business opportunities
  • Provides direction and motivation to engineering staff to ensure successful execution of the engineering responsibilities on all programs
  • Assesses and manages employee capabilities and determines staffing needs to meet current and future business needs. Provide performance management and developmental opportunities to existing staff as well as recruit new talent in order to meet technical gaps 
  • Leads and mentors teams of engineers responsible for production processes, quality performance, and continuous improvement efforts within the entire organization
  • Develops and executes the strategic technology vision and roadmap to address new and emerging equipment and processing technologies
  • Implements the Engineering Department strategic initiatives to successfully meet current and future operational requirements 
  • Participates and contributes to the implementation and successful performance against the business AOP
  • Establishes goals and objectives for the Engineering team that stretch boundaries by detailing specific continuous improvement activities focused on enhancing internal processes
  • Ensures internal processes and programs produce products that meet or exceed customers' expectations
  • Interacts both vertically and horizontally in a way that commands both personal respect and mission acceptance
  • Acts as a change agent for improvement initiatives
  • Possesses the ability and interpersonal skills to influence all levels of the organization
  • Retains and hires a world-class staff and develops a winning culture in line with our vision and values
  • Administers all Human Resources programs and policies (including selection, promotion, transfers, salary administration and termination) without regard to race, religion, sex, national origin, age or handicap)

 

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Industrial Engineering
  • MBA or other advanced degree or certifications related to responsibilities, preferred
  • Ten years of Engineering leadership experience in an electronic manufacturing environment
  • In depth knowledge of electronic manufacturing processes including SMT, through-hole technology, circuit card assembly, box build assembly and functional test
  • Thorough knowledge of quality management systems and procedures including ISO/AS 9100, ASQ, NADCAP as well as ensuring the company's QMS system complies with all external (independent and customer) requirements and audits
  • Thorough knowledge of quality procedures and methodologies, including ISO/AS9100, Six Sigma, Lean, and failure reporting and corrective action system 
  • Familiar with Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP)
  • Understanding of Government procurement procedures and in-depth knowledge of Government contract work
  • Excellent leadership, program/project management, contract, and OEM operations management with experience in relevant technology-based companies in regulated markets
  • Experience with implementing Lean tools/methods (Toyota Production System, Standard work, 5S, Total Preventive Maintenance, 1 piece flow, Set Up Reduction, Poka Yoke)
  • Knowledge of work standards and visual manufacturing instructions
  • Knowledge of IPC standards and NADCAP accreditation
  • Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite
  • Some travel required on an as needed basis
  • Six Sigma Black Belt certification, preferred
  • Possess or have the ability to obtain a U.S. Government granted security clearance
