Job Description

Our client, a well-established player in the manufacturing sector, is seeking a skilled Controls Engineer to join their operations in the Lansing, MI area. This direct hire opportunity is ideal for an engineer with hands-on experience in PLCs, robotic systems, and automation projects-especially within a high-demand environment like automotive or industrial manufacturing.
This is more than a maintenance-focused role-it's a chance to lead technical coordination of the plant's automation and electrical systems. You'll manage PLC/robotic equipment, spearhead new projects, and drive continuous improvement across controls infrastructure. Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage all technical activities related to the plant's PLC-controlled paint system, including documentation, ladder logic, board/software revisions, and interface coordination.
  • Collaborate with maintenance teams to ensure optimal performance of electrical systems, PLCs, and robotic equipment.
  • Lead automation and controls engineering modifications for new and existing projects, ensuring compliance with local and state regulations.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies (PLC or otherwise) and evaluate their potential application.
  • Act as project manager for engineering projects as assigned by leadership.
  • Support broader electrical engineering needs across current and future systems.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

Required Qualifications:
  • Documented experience with Allen-Bradley (or similar) PLC systems including hardware, software, and ladder logic.
  • Proven hands-on experience with robotic systems and interface design.
  • Strong PC proficiency and ability to navigate industrial software environments.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical/electronic schematics and technical documentation.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, or a related field.
  • Equivalent work experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Candidates currently enrolled in a degree program with relevant work experience will also be considered.

Contract positions

Will be employed and paid hourly by iMPact Business Group. Benefits (medical, dental & vision) are available after 90 days of employment.
