Job Description

An iMPact Business Group client is seeking to hire an experienced Sales Engineer / Business Development Engineer. This role is with a highly successful manufacturing client in the precision manufactured components industry.

This role functions as the point person for growth, support, and development of new and existing precision manufacturing / machining customer projects. Responsible for identifying new potential sales opportunities, developing sales quotations, and building relationships with current and future customers.  This role will be actively involved in “field activity” and building strong relationships with the customer to support a particular product team, plant, or group of plants in growing the business.

Duties -

  • Utilize technical knowledge of -- precision machining, milling, drilling, grinding, abrasive finishing, heat treatments, surface treatments, tooling, fixtures, work holding and gaging (as many as practical) in the Sales quotation process
  • Utilize Engineering cycle calculations, process layouts, and manufacturing costs to create sales quotations/solutions for customers
  • Develop and document manufacturing processes for customer quotations creating first draft pricing proposals for sales and management teams
  • Interpret technical documents -- part prints, material specs, process flow diagrams, cleanliness/particle count standards, etc. as they would relate to Sales quotations
  • Capable to troubleshoot technical issues and provide -- solutions, ideas, feedback to the Customer and Engineering teams
  • Able to support Quality Assurance. (APQP)
  • Provide on-site inspection/trouble shooting real time (This can be at the Customer site or at the production facility)
  • Able to build trust/rapport with internal and external teams/customers
  • Gather market intelligence and identify new business opportunities
  • Efficiently manage field activity (Supplier visits, Customer visits, Factory site visits)
  • Facilitates reporting / sharing of key information to the appropriate audience
  • Gather data on key performance indicators (KPI's)
  • Initiate, coordinate, organize, and participate in various meetings and conference calls with production facilities and Customers
  • Perform Quote follow-up with Plants and Customers

Job Requirements

  • College Degree in Engineering (project management experience and 5+ years of experience may be considered in lieu of a Degree) 
  • 3-5+ years of manufacturing / machining / metal forming experience
  • Strong Engineering / Production background along with experience in a Sales, Business Development, Customer support
  • Computer proficiency with Microsoft Office or similar products
  • Working knowledge of QS9000/TS16949 (or equivalent)
  • Experience with finance/cost management / quoting
  • Working knowledge of statistics / analytics
  • Experience giving sales / solutions presentations to varied audiences
