Job Description

Our client is seeking a seasoned Senior Product Design Engineer to join their innovative engineering team, driving the development of innovative products within the furniture industry. The Sr. Product Design Engineer is responsible for the creation of technical and detailed design drawings using CAD software for new product designs. They are responsible for creating and evaluating first prototypes analytically and physically to ensure technical function.

Here's what you get to do: 
  • Create detailed technical design drawings and 3D models using CAD (SolidWorks preferred) for new product concepts and improvements.
  • Conduct and analyze physical and digital prototyping, including FEA and lifecycle testing.
  • Drive the execution of ECNs and documentation updates across product lines.
  • Ensure products meet or exceed industry standards such as BIFMA.
  • Collaborate with Designers, Marketing, and Engineering to align technical feasibility with design goals.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with suppliers, manufacturing teams, and external partners.
  • Perform root cause analysis and design of experiments (DOE) for continual product improvement.
  • Lead project teams through manufacturing methods, costing, and process documentation.
  • Oversee project timelines, budgets, and vendor deliverables.
  • Contribute to patent research to ensure compliance with intellectual property standards.
  • Actively engage in cost-reduction projects and improvements to existing product lines.
  • Mentor junior engineers and support team-wide knowledge sharing.
  • Partner with shop floor and tooling teams to transition designs to production efficiently.
  • Travel occasionally to research or implement new manufacturing processes.

Job Requirements

Here's what you will need:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical or related discipline) preferred.
  • 4+ years of hands-on experience in product design, preferably within the furniture industry.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical systems involving wood, steel, aluminum, and fasteners.
  • Expertise in SolidWorks and experience with ERP systems for design data.
  • Familiarity with FEA tools and ability to conduct lifecycle performance analyses.
  • Practical experience with product testing and BIFMA compliance.
  • Working knowledge of GD&T and 2D/3D stack-ups.
  • Demonstrated experience in ECN processes and new product introductions.
  • Ability to lead technical discussions and clearly communicate complex concepts across teams.
  • Prior involvement in reviewing and understanding patents.
  • Experience in Quality Control validation and PPAP processes.
