Machinist 1
Department: Manufacturing / Production
Shifts: 
  • Bravo Shift: Monday-Weds 7p-730a
  • Delta Shift: Thursday-Saturday 7p-730a
Job Summary
As a Machinist 1, you will play a key role in maintaining cell productivity by performing proven setups, troubleshooting production issues, operating CNC machinery, and ensuring high-quality part production. You will work under the guidance of a Manufacturing Engineer or Cell Supervisor while actively contributing to process improvements, safety, and team performance.
Essential Functions
  • Operate and maintain all machines and processes within the assigned manufacturing cell.
  • Perform proven setups and make necessary tool offsets to produce conforming parts.
  • Preset tools, calibrate probes, and tool setters as required.
  • Troubleshoot common machine issues, including Automatic Tool Changer alarms, and resolve problems affecting part production or quality.
  • Inspect parts thoroughly after tool or program changes using precision measuring instruments (micrometers, calipers, height gauges, indicators, etc.).
  • Clear and correct machine alarms and perform basic troubleshooting to minimize downtime.
  • Monitor process flow and assist in meeting daily production targets set by the Cell Supervisor.
  • Actively participate in continuous improvement initiatives related to Safety, 6S, Quality, Delivery, and Productivity.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area, ensuring machines, tools, and surfaces are free of oil, grease, and debris.
  • Comply with all applicable operator work instructions, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), quality standards, and safety protocols.
  • Assist in training less experienced machine operators as needed.
  • Demonstrate commitment to environmental health and safety principles, policies, and procedures.
  • Support a positive work environment through high integrity, safety awareness, fair treatment, and teamwork.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Job Requirements

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Typically 2–4 years of prior manufacturing experience, or a combination of related experience, education, and/or training.
  • Two-year technical degree or approved apprenticeship in CNC Machining (mill or lathe) is a plus.
  • Working knowledge of metalworking tools, work holding devices, and common machining practices.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, including Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Proficiency in understanding machine tool programming languages (G & M codes).
  • Ability to interpret G & M codes to anticipate machine actions, use “Distance to Go,” and apply feed rate/spindle speed overrides during troubleshooting and changeovers.
  • Strong understanding of how tools create specific part features and the ability to identify and correct visual or dimensional defects.
  • Knowledge of proper tooling assembly, center-cutting tool alignment, work holding, and tool clamping techniques.
  • Ability to align work holding or adjust work coordinates and use a test indicator to align machine axes within acceptable limits.
  • Basic understanding of CNC programming strategies.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills — able to recognize when a process or product is not performing correctly and take corrective action.
  • Excellent attention to detail and record-keeping skills.
  • Proven ability to work effectively in a team environment and cooperate proactively with others.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to manage time efficiently and work under pressure or deadlines.
  • Flexible and willing to learn new skills and take on additional responsibilities.
  • Must demonstrate alignment with company values.
Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to lift and carry awkward items weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Requires intermittent standing, walking, sitting, and bending throughout the workday.
  • Must be able to work in a manufacturing environment, including exposure to machinery, noise, chemicals, lights/lasers, and other typical shop conditions.
  • Must be able to wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as defined by company policy and position requirements.
Work Environment
This position is performed in a manufacturing production environment and may require assignment to different departments, functional groups, or shifts as needed to support business requirements.
