Job Description

Our client distributes grocery products to independent and chain retailers in 50 states and our own corporate-owned retail stores throughout the Midwest, in addition to fresh food processing and distribution. Through our MDV military division, we are a leading distributor of grocery products to U.S. military commissaries.

Location: 100% onsite, Grand Rapids, MI 

Our client is seeking a 1st shift truck fleet Dispatcher
  • Contract maybe Contract-to-Hire
  • Days/Hours: Wednesday / Thursday / Friday / Saturday    5am - 4pm
AND

A 3rd shift truck fleet Dispatcher
  • Contract-to-Hire or Direct Hire
  • Days/Hours: Sunday / Monday / Thursday / Friday            6pm - 5am
 
The role would be responsible for ensuring on-time, safe, and efficient delivery of products to customer locations.  This is accomplished by scheduling and directing drivers to ensure department efficiency, on-time and safe delivery to retail customers, monitoring all routes for customer orders, analyzing delivery data and customer service levels, and making appropriate adjustments to meet customer needs.
 
  • Analyze customer delivery schedules working with cross-functional teams to ensure the most cost-efficient routes and load density goals are achieved.
  • Assign daily work assignments and hold associates accountable to perform these activities in adherence with the labor contract.  Coach, counsel, and train associates on proper methods and procedures to ensure the completion of the job in a satisfactory manner.
  • Communicate with drivers and customers regarding concerns, delays, and changes and resolve as necessary.
  • Document associate activities according to procedure and participate as necessary in the progressive discipline process. Assist supervisor with union grievances, contractual adherence, and associate concerns.
  • Ensure daily and weekly reports are completed timely.
  • Monitor driver logs for compliance with break times, and partner cross-functionally on DOT compliance (i.e., DOT physical re-certifications, driver's license renewals, random drug screenings, and paperwork completion).
  • Sort and route customer loads, same day and next day delivery as well as backhauls through the routing and scheduling software system.
 

Job Requirements

  • 1-3 years of previous dispatch or transportation experience
  • Bachelors required or equivalent education/experience
  • Good written/verbal communication skills
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft tools, Supply Chain tracking software, and data management tools
