JOB DESCRIPTION
The Corporate Director of Building & Construction responsibilities include the management and control of new construction projects, renovation projects and hospital facility upgrades. The Corporate Director of Building & Construction is required to provide oversight and coordination of all design, bidding, permitting and construction activities related to projects assigned. The Corporate Director of Building & Construction is responsible for the follow-up and coordination of facility maintenance concerns and warranty issues that may arise at the hospital facilities and headquarters buildings. The person in this role will work collaboratively with all Departments across the entire hospital system, both corporately and on an individual hospital basis, to ensure standards are met. The ideal candidate will also assist in facilitating improvements to hospital maintenance programs, effecting operational cost savings and developing maintenance and plant operation standards for use in each hospital

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

Prepares Request for Proposal (RFP) and Request for Qualification (RFQ) documents to solicit proposals from design consultants, construction contractors, consultants and vendors. Analyzes proposals, makes recommendations and supervises the work of those retained. 13 %

Completes various administrative tasks including budgeting, cost tracking, cash flow projections, input to public relations and donor publications. Manages administrative personnel. 13 %

Develops standards of preferred equipment and finishes in various hospital departments (chillers, boilers, hot water heaters, flooring, carpeting, etc.). This includes products that have not worked well in previous installations. 13 %

Develops and suggests new maintenance and operation practices to improve efficiency and affect cost savings. Such practices may include energy saving studies, annual maintenance inspections and standard preventative maintenance software and conducting surveys to determine the best products to use at new facilities. 13 %

Directs the feasibility and cost studies per the direction of the Chairman, Buildings & Equipment Committee to define scope of work and cost potential of hospital renovation or new construction projects. 12 %

Manages and controls multiple complex and diverse renovation and construction projects 12 %

Reviews all requests for building related capital equipment. Assures that requested equipment meets or exceeds life safety codes, ensures infrastructure can meet the demand requirements for utilities and other construction that may be required for installation. 12 %

Works collaboratively with General Counsel, Materials Management, Finance and other functional areas as required to expedite facility management requirements. 12 %

JOB REQUIREMENTS
The qualified candidate will have experience in the following areas:
10 years of experience in maintenance/engineering in a hospital setting required
Ability to travel 30% (regional and national, with occasional international travel)
Minimum Education Required/Preferred:
Bachelor s degree required
Master s degree preferred
Knowledge, Skills, and Competencies:
Prioritizing multiple activities
Strong organizational skills
Computer and technically literate
Ability to read and understand blueprints
Competency reviewing and understanding contract language
Competency reviewing and understanding shop drawings and submittals
Managing conflicting interests and opposing priorities
Managing staff interactions at all levels
Managing consultants and vendors
