Job Description

Our Client, a Public Utility that provides natural gas and electricity to the majority of Michigan's 10 million residents is seeking a talented and self-driven individual for needs serving in the role of Construction Project Cost Controller.

 

DUTIES:

 

A project cost controller's primary responsibility is to track and control costs for one or more of their employer's projects. As a Project Cost Controller, typical responsibilities include: invoice review and tracking, contractor expense tracking, ticket review and tracking, administering project change control documentation, data entry for miscellaneous reporting activities, and any other tasks related to supporting project cost control.  This position typically supports the primary project cost controller but may occasionally operate independently under management oversight. Persons interested in this position must have an above-average understanding of the use of Excel spreadsheets and at least a basic understanding of construction projects, contracting, and accounting principles.  Certifications from PMI or AACE will set candidates apart.

 

Job Requirements

SKILLS:
 
  • Project Cost Controllers should have a strong understanding of the project life cycle and the use of earned value management to determine project status. 
  • A high level of organizational skills are required in order to provide clear and transparent project information.  
  • Project Cost Controllers should have a firm understanding of the use of Microsoft products, namely Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel.  
  • Communications skills, verbal and written, are also key for this position, as Project Cost Controllers must communicate effectively with upper management, project team members, and subordinates.
  • Oracle Unifier (preferred)
  • Cura forecasting tool (preferred)
  • Must understand financials 
  • Microsoft Office Suite, strong Excel skills 
  • Self-starter, strong work ethic 
 
 
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
 
 
Prefer a bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, project or construction management and a minimum of 3+ years of experience in the field or in a related area. Has knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within Project Controls. Although not required, Project Cost Controllers with certifications from AACE or PMI are preferable.
