The cost accountant position is accountable for the ongoing analysis of process constraints, target costing projects, margin analysis, and tracing costs back to underlying activities. The cost accountant must also monitor those cost-effective data accumulation systems needed to provide an appropriate level of costing information to management.
Coordinate physical inventory counts and cycle counts
Investigate cycle counting variances and resolve issues
Maintain standard costs in the bill of materials
Review standard and actual costs for inaccuracies
Validate the cost of goods sold as part of the month-end close
Accumulate and apply overhead costs as required by generally accepted accounting principles
Work with management locate and dispose of obsolete inventory
Report on margins by product and division
Report on periodic variances and their causes, focusing in particular on spending variances
Forecast cost of goods sold for future periods
Five (5) to seven (7) years of Cost accounting experience
Background must demonstrate a sound understanding of manufacturing and cost accounting principles
Prior experience/use and proficiency of ERP software systems
Ability to evaluate and interpret data and trends.
Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
Strong attention to detail
Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Excellent organization and time management skills with the ability to multi-task, juggle multiple priorities and function in a flexible environment.
Must be flexible and have the ability to work under tight deadlines and be able to deliver completed work on time and with accuracy.
Internally motivated, task oriented individual that can complete a task without constant or direct supervision
Bachelor' s degree from a four-year college or university, in accounting or finance
