System / Windows Administrator
Provide technical support and administration of the Windows server and storage environment.
Work with other IT staff members to facilitate efficient, reliable, and secure compute resources in adherence with standards and external audit requirements.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
Depending on assigned area of responsibility, incumbents in the position may perform some or all of the activities described below.
Provide technical support for, and administer, all Microsoft Windows servers and appliances (virtual and physical as required) prioritized by internal SLA' s and guidelines.
Provide technical support for, and administer as needed, the patching system, performing server and client patching in accordance with established guidelines and as directed.
Support the server applications assigned to the server team.
Provide technical support for, and administer, the IP based video camera system.
Provide technical support for, and administer, the production backup and archive system.
Provide recommendations and plans proactively in support of security bulletins, known vulnerabilities, end of life / end of support notices, and predictive failure metrics.
Produces, updates, and maintains documentation in a secure fashion to facilitate knowledge transfer.
Lead troubleshooting efforts to resolve issues affecting the Windows or other systems.
Practice continuous learning via self-study and classroom education to stay current in network technologies, security threats and best practices, and overall job related knowledge.
Perform additional duties and tasks as assigned in support of the agency and / or end users.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Advanced to expert level knowledge of Microsoft Windows operating systems (primarily 2008 and 2012).
Advanced to expert level knowledge of Active Directory administration.
Advanced to expert level knowledge of VMWare ESX servers in a production environment.
Working to advanced level knowledge of both block and file based storage systems.
Working knowledge of package deployment, patching, and remote control services in a large environment.
Working knowledge of wired and wireless networks (including cellular) standards, design, network flow, administration, and support.
Advanced to expert level knowledge of backup and archive systems (primarily VEEAM).
Advanced to expert level troubleshooting and diagnostics skills.
Working knowledge of multi-factor security systems and endpoint hardening (including MDM)
Working to advanced level knowledge of client and server operating systems (i.E. Windows, Linux) to include, at a minimum, network stack and interface configuration options.
Skilled in effective verbal and written communication in English with stakeholders, team, and end users in both technical and non-technical environments.
Note: Applicants must meet the following requirement(s) to be considered minimally qualified for the job.
A minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in a system administrator role supporting complex Microsoft Windows environments and / or more than 3, 000 users; and experience with working with a team of people handling the administration of large virtualized environments; and US Citizen.
NetApp certification preferred (NCDA) or a Senior level of experience
VMWare or Linux certification or a Senior level of experience
Experience supporting a large user base performing critical life safety functions or missions; and a verifiable track record of high productivity and ability to overcome obstacles in a professional manner.
